If you can't travel to Gloucester, MA read The Last Days of Dogtown: A Novel
by Anita Diamant. Diamant goes back to the 1800s and populates the now deserted Dogtown with a patchwork of outsiders. As usual Diamant brings the period to life with her details of daily life. -vc
